A Dance
by Jen, August 2005

He watched her sewing the fabric together into a dress. It was a dark purple, almost black. He was only here for three days and this was his last night with her. She tolled him the Naboo Independence Day Ball was coming. It was the day Naboo became free from dictatorship four hundred years ago. She was sewing it by the fire light in the den room of their house. Anakin glanced at her every now and then as he read his report summary from his latest mission. He was taking time here to recuperate.

“Done.” She said in a sweet child like voice. He looked up at his wife and all her glory. She held the long dress in front of him. He smiled at her work. “I’m going to put it on.” She said and made her way up stairs to their bedroom. Anakin still sat in the chair reading the report and made corrections. Then he’s wife came down and he could only marvel at her beauty. He stood up. “What do you think?” She asked him while looking down her dress as it hugged her curves. “It took me month to make it.”
Anakin only smile. He walked over to her. He almost didn’t want to touch her because she was so beautiful.

“I love it. You’ll out shine everyone else’s dresses.” He said with a smile. He moved closer to her and she wrapped her arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around her tiny waist.

“I wish you could stay longer and come. Naboo is your home now and you should be allowed to celebrate one of its finest holidays.” She said with her forehead pressed against his. “Plus I want to show you off to everyone.” She added on. He gave a sigh.

“You know, we could have are our own dance.” He said taking her right hand in his left and held it out and up and left his right arm around her waist. They started to move in a slow dance holding each other close. Then Padme started to hum a melody. Anakin recognized it. It was his favorite love song. It was played at the wedding two years ago after the shared their first kiss as husband and wife. She had a wonderful mellow voice that could put him to sleep. They danced slowly by the firelight, holding each other close. He would remember this forever. He danced with his wife.
